California Dreamin’ – As the west coast swing continues for the second consecutive week, the NASCAR Cup Series (NCS) has embarked on Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. Ty Dillon and the GEICO Racing team are ready to build off their top-10 performance one week ago at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The No. 13 Camaro ZL1 1LE will hit the 2.0-mile track on Friday for two practice sessions, before qualifying on Saturday afternoon. The green flag for the 400-mile event will wave at 3:30 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon.
Dillon at Auto Club – Dillon has three career NCS starts at Auto Club Speedway, all of which have been behind the wheel of the No. 13 Germain Racing Chevrolet. In last season’s event, Dillon had a steady run at the 2-mile oval, before a blown tire hindered the strong performance. The 28-year-old has also competed in four NASCAR Xfinity Series races, notching two top-10 finishes.
Rearview Mirror – Last week at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Dillon and the GEICO Racing team recorded a 10th-place finish. After posting speeds inside the top-10 in both practice sessions, the No. 13 Camaro ZL1 1LE was forced to start in the 24th position with qualifying being rained out. Dillon would climb his way forward and consistently run inside the top-20 for the majority of the event. On the last restart, Dillon passed nine cars in one lap to cross the finish line inside the top-10. This result marked the first top-10 finish for Germain Racing on an intermediate track.

From the Driver’s Seat: Quotes from Ty Dillon
How do you think the aero package will affect the racing this weekend after a year of evolution?
"Now that we've had a year to develop this new aero package, I think it's going to get better as everyone figures out what they are looking for out of their race cars in order to race well. I think the racing is going to be solid. Last year, our GEICO team was having a great run and had a left front go flat that put the rest of our day behind. We are excited to go back and redeem ourselves. We think we have a decent package for that race track too. Our Camaro ZL1 1LE was really strong in Daytona and had a great showing of speed before getting caught up in a crash, so we need to have a solid west coast swing for our team. If we continue to have good momentum from a top-10 finish at Vegas and through Fontana, we are going to have a great start to the year."
Do you want to see Fontana repaved yet or is it still workable for you as drivers?
"I think you're going to ruin Fontana for a couple years if you repave it right now. Unless they reconfigure it someway with changing the banking or doing something different. I think you would end up with a mirror image of Michigan and we don't really need two Michigans. Michigan is good and a great race, but you really don't want the same thing twice. Right now, Fontana has its own unique challenges that all the drivers look at as one of the most exciting tracks for us to go. There are so many lanes and different ways to go around it. It's rough, worn out and you have the seams to deal with. If you repave the track, you take four or five variables out of the weekend and it becomes much more about the car than it does the driver."
