RACE PREVIEW: Richmond Raceway
Under the Lights – After a string of races at intermediate race tracks, the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) is returning to short track action at Richmond Raceway for the second and final time of the 2019 season. Ty Dillon and the GEICO team are ready to race under the lights for the Federated Auto Parts 400 on Saturday, September 21. The No. 13 Camaro ZL1 will hit the Virginia short track on Friday for two practice sessions, before qualifying later that evening at 6:05 p.m. ET. The green flag for the 400-lap event will wave at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday night.
Dillon at Richmond – Dillon has made five career MENCS starts at Richmond Raceway, all of which have been behind the wheel of the No. 13 Germain Racing Chevrolet. In those five races, Dillon has completed 99.6% of the laps competed at the .75-mile, D-shaped oval. The 27-year-old has also competed in 10 NASCAR Xfinity Series races, recording two top-five and seven top-10 finishes.
Rearview Mirror – Last week as the MENCS headed west to Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Dillon and the GEICO team looked to continue their streak of consecutive top-20 finishes. After two successful practice sessions with a well-handling GEICO Chevrolet, the Germain Racing team worked together to put themselves in a position to capitalize in the third stage. Dillon ran inside the top-10 with less than 15 laps to go, but unfortunately ran out of fuel on the final lap. The GEICO Camaro ZL1 made it back around the 1.5-mile track to cross the finish line in the 16th position, recording Dillon’s fifth straight top-20 effort.
Meet Dillon – Fans will have two opportunities to meet Dillon prior to the green flag on Saturday, September 21. Dillon will first be at the GEICO Display in the Richmond Raceway Midway at 3:55 p.m. ET, where the driver will answer questions with Dave Moody and sign autographs. Following his appearance at the GEICO Display, Dillon will head to the Germain Racing Merchandise Hauler to sign autographs for those who have received a wristband throughout the weekend. What are your expectations heading to Richmond Raceway?
“We look at short tracks as an opportunity to run inside the top-15. Finishing outside the top-20 is probably a little more of a disappointment there, so going back to Richmond for the second time this season, we look to gather the momentum that we've had on short tracks and run inside the top-15. I think our GEICO team can do that. Richmond is one of my favorite race tracks and I have a good feel of what it takes to get it done there. If we can keep this momentum rolling, I think we will be able to get the result we are looking for."
