RACE PREVIEW: Pocono Raceway

For the second time in 2019, the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) is heading to Pocono Raceway. The two-day show will be packed with racing action as Ty Dillon and the GEICO Military team have two practice sessions on Saturday morning, followed by qualifying after the Truck Series race that evening. The field will take the green flag on Sunday afternoon for 400 miles of racing!

This will be Dillon’s eighth MENCS race at Pocono Raceway. Five of his previous starts have been behind the wheel of the Germain Racing Chevrolet.

Honor and Remember

This week at Pocono Raceway, Germain Racing will honor Private First Class William Justice Richardson of the United States Army. He was killed in action during World War II on May 12, 1944, in Anzio, Italy. PFC Richardson was honored with the Purple Heart and the Africa Theatre Ribbon for his bravery and sacrifice.

PFC Richardson is the great uncle of Germain Racing’s race engineer, Jeff Kirkendall. He is the brother of Kirkendall’s maternal grandfather. PFC Richardson was one of six brothers to serve during the war.

Germain Racing is honored to have PFC Richardson ride along with Dillon in Sunday’s race.

Dillon Weekend Chatter

What was your takeaway from the Pocono race in June with this new package?

“I think that we have some work to do this weekend in Pocono. I don’t feel like we really understood how this package would work at this particular racetrack when we were there earlier this year, and I think a lot of teams really struggled to get the most out of it that they could. I know that they’ve decided to use PJ1 this weekend, and I think that will help the overall performance and the product that we’re giving to fans. But, it’s going to take some getting used to and learning what kind of moves we can make once we see how and where they’ve applied it. This GEICO Military team is in a better position this weekend than we were in June now that we have notes from that race to work off of, and we are all looking for a finish that reflects that improvement.”

Dillon will appear at Pocono Fan Fest with his brother Austin Dillon on Friday night. The brothers will play games and interact with fans in the infield to get race weekend started! Visit PoconoRaceway.com/fanfest to learn how you can join the fun.
