RACE PREVIEW: Chicagoland Speedway

NASCAR is heading to the Midwest for the start of summer! Ty Dillon and the No. 13 GEICO Military Camaro ZL1 team will make the trip to Chicagoland Speedway for their only visit of the season. This race used to be held in September, but NASCAR now runs the 400-mile race in the Illinois heat of June. Drivers and teams will have to prepare for hot and slick conditions when they take to the track.

This will be Dillon’s fourth Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at the mile-and-a-half track. Dillon also has six NASCAR Xfinity series starts and two NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series starts under his belt at Chicagoland. In his only ARCA Menards Series race at the track, Dillon won the event after starting from the fifth spot and leading 16 laps of competition.

Honor and Remember

Germain Racing’s hauler driver, Ben Prince, served honorably in the United States Army as a soldier in the 546 Transportation unit. The GEICO Military Camaro ZL1 will carry the names of two of his unit members that were killed in action on August 26, 2011, on the decklid this weekend at Chicagoland Speedway to honor their service to our country.

Germain Racing is honored to have these brave men ride along with Dillon in Sunday’s race.

Dillon Weekend Chatter

What are your thoughts as you prepare for racing at Chicagoland Speedway?

“The heat takes so much grip out of the racetrack. We don’t know what the tradeoff will be with this new package, though, because this will be our first time at Chicagoland with it. I think we’re going to have a good GEICO Military Camaro ZL1 out there. We’re still working to build our intermediate-track program. We have some room to grow there, but we have shown some promise in the past few races at mile-and-a-half tracks. We have just had some bad luck that has kept us from getting the results that we want to see. So, I’m excited to get out there and see what happens. I think Chicagoland will really fit the style of racing that we’re going for with this new package.”
