RACE PREVIEW: Bristol Motor Speedway

NASCAR is heading to the “World’s Fastest Half-Mile” track! This will be the third short track race of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season. A style of racing that fits Ty Dillon, the No. 13 GEICO Camaro ZL1 finished in the 15th position at ISM Raceway and in 13th place at Martinsville Speedway. Germain Racing’s short track program has been a standout so far in this year, and the team is looking to continue to impress this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway (BMS) and next weekend at Richmond Raceway.

Dillon Weekend Chatter

What are your thoughts as you prepare for Bristol Motor Speedway with the GEICO Racing team?

“Bristol Motor Speedway is my favorite racetrack that we go to. I’ve been successful running against the wall and making my way to the front, and I’ve been pretty good running the bottom as well. Races at Bristol are always great. Throwing extra downforce at us with all the horsepower is going to make it a wild race. We already go around Bristol at such high speeds that this package is going to make it extremely fast. Being sharp mentally and physically is going to pay huge dividends. I always look forward to heading to Bristol with this team and our GEICO Camaro ZL1 because I always feel like there is an opportunity to run well.”

Crew Chief Corner

Matt Borland, crew chief of the No. 13 GEICO Camaro ZL1, has sat atop a pit box for 17 races at BMS. Highlights of his races as a crew chief at BMS include two pole awards and setting a track record with a qualifying time of 14.90 from driver Ryan Newman in 2003.

“Bristol is a tricky racetrack. It’s incredibly fast. Cars are constantly in traffic. You have to have a car that can run well in both the top lane and the bottom lane. The track changes throughout the weekend with the rubber build up. And, we have the added unknowns of how the track surface treatments will change throughout the weekend. All of those elements make it difficult to find the perfect balance for the race car. Ty enjoys this track, and that is always helpful when you head to Bristol because he’s excited to wheel it through all of the changing circumstances. We have seen great speed in our short-track program so far this year. I’m very happy to have two top-15 finishes at the short tracks that we have been to so far this year. We have seen speed improvement at every track we’ve been to this year, especially in qualifying. I’m looking forward to heading to Bristol this weekend with our GEICO Camaro ZL1 to show everyone what it can do.”
