RACE PREVIEW: Texas Motor Speedway

The GEICO Racing team had a strong run at Martinsville Speedway this past Sunday. Running inside of the top 15 most of the afternoon, Dillon powered his No. 13 GEICO Camaro ZL1 as high as seventh and ultimately earned a 15th-place finish. He will ride that momentum all the way to No Limits, Texas, for Sunday’s 500-mile event at Texas Motor Speedway (TMS). Having finished 13th at the intermediate track earlier this year, Dillon and his GEICO Military team are hoping to continue the positive gains that they have been making in recent weeks.

This will be Dillon’s fifth Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series start at TMS. In his previous four races, Dillon has an average start of 23.5 and an average finish of 18.5. His best finish of 13th place came earlier this year with the GEICO Racing team. In his 10 previous NASCAR Xfinity Series starts, he has earned one top-five finish and three top-10 finishes. With an average start of 13.7 and an average finish of 11.8, Dillon scored his best finish of fifth place in 2015. Dillon’s most impressive TMS stats come from his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series days. In his five starts at the mile-and-a-half track, Dillon has one win, four top-five and five top-10 finishes. He has led 229 laps of competition, 130 of which were in his 2013 winning performance. Dillon has earned an average start of 5.0 and an average finish of 3.6.

Dillon Weekend Chatter

What do you like so much about Texas Motor Speedway?

"I don't know why, but I've always been able to find success at Texas. It has been a good track for me personally, and my team always seems to put their best foot forward there as well. Our GEICO Racing team finished 13th there earlier this year. It's a fast mile-and-a-half track with the fresh repave and the turns being so different than what we have anywhere else. It's very unique now, and I think that it is only going to get more fun as the track surface ages."

Have you liked the new surface at Texas so far?

“I don’t really have a preference. I did win on the old configuration in the Truck Series. I felt really comfortable with how to attack and approach racing on that surface. But, I like the new track as well. It has been fun so far and is incredibly fast. We’ve seen great racing on both.”
