RACE PREVIEW: Martinsville Speedway

After racing at a superspeedway and an intermediate track these past two weeks, Ty Dillon and the GEICO Racing team are ready to head back to the short track of Martinsville Speedway. A tough, but exciting, track in the shape of a paperclip, Martinsville has been hosting NASCAR events for decades. The historic track is one that Dillon has been visiting most of his life with his family. Growing up in the Winston-Salem area of North Carolina, Martinsville is somewhat of a home track for Dillon.

This will be Dillon’s fourth Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series start at Martinsville Speedway. He tied his best finish of 22nd place in the spring events of 2017 and 2018 with the GEICO Racing team. Dillon has six Camping World Truck Series starts to his name. He has earned two top-five finishes, with his best finish of second place coming in 2012. In his only K&N Pro Series East start at the short track, Dillon finished in the 22nd position after he was involved in a late-race crash.

Dillon Weekend Chatter

What are your thoughts as NASCAR heads to Martinsville Speedway?

“Our GEICO Racing team has had some pretty decent races at Martinsville. I have a really good feel for the track from racing there quite a bit throughout the years with it being so close to home. I had some great runs in the Truck Series there that have given me confidence heading there in a Cup Series car. I’m looking forward to going back this weekend. Hopefully we will have a strong run on Sunday and leave with positive momentum to close out the season.”

Fans will have the opportunity to see Dillon when he visits the Team Chevy stage on Sunday morning in the fan midway. He will answer questions in a Q&A session and sign autographs.
