NASCAR is heading out to the Midwest to kick off the final five races of the 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) season. Ty Dillon and the GEICO Racing team will take on Kansas Speedway after bringing home a 15th-place finish last weekend in Talladega. After a wreck took them out of contention in the spring event at the intermediate track, the team is looking to rebound with better results in the GEICO Camaro ZL1.
This will be Dillon’s fifth MENCS start at Kansas. In his previous races, Dillon has earned two top-20 finishes, with his best finish of 14th place coming in 2017. He also has four NASCAR Xfinity Series starts to his name at Kansas Speedway. Dillon his earned two top-five and three top-10 finishes in the series. He scored his best finish of fourth place in 2015. In his two NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts, he finished in the top 10 in both outings and earned his best finish of eighth place in 2013. Dillon has competed in two ARCA Racing Series races at the track and won the 2010 event after starting from the fourth position and leading 10 laps.
Dillon Weekend Chatter
What are your thoughts as NASCAR heads to Kansas Speedway?
“Kansas is going to be another benchmark race for our GEICO Racing team. The spring race was difficult for us. We didn’t have the speed that we thought we would. In the five months since we’ve been there, our car has changed so much. We have a better feel for the Camaro ZL1, more knowledge about the new tech inspection system and have been working really hard to build our intermediate track program. We’re heading out there and expecting to see improvements in our performance, and I think that we will.”
