RACE PREVIEW: Las Vegas Motor Speedway
The GEICO Racing team is headed to Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS) after scoring three straight 21st-place finishes at Bristol Motor Speedway, Darlington Raceway and Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Ty Dillon is anxious to get another top 20 finish but realizes the significance of the consistent races, saying that the team is "improving and getting better week in and week out.” They are looking to continue building momentum in Las Vegas and break the streak by cracking into the top 20.
This weekend will mark Dillon’s third Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at LVMS. He ran both of his previous races with the GEICO Racing team, and his best finish of 24th came in 2017. Dillon has competed in five NASCAR Xfinity Series races at the intermediate track. With two top-10 finishes and one pole award in 2014, he earned his best finish of seventh place in 2016. Dillon’s highlights in his two NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts at LVMS include a 2013 pole award, a fourth-place finish and leading laps in both events.
Dillon Weekend Chatter
What are your thoughts as NASCAR heads to Las Vegas for a second time this season?
“This GEICO Racing team has been working incredibly hard all season long, and we are finally starting to see an upswing in momentum here in these last few weeks. We have three straight 21st-place finishes, which is a great improvement in consistency for our team. We obviously have to keep growing and building up the program, but to make any sort of overall change we needed to start being consistent. Our guys can check that box now and move on to the next step, which is turning those into top-20 finishes every week. Las Vegas was a tough track for us earlier this year, and we have an opportunity to show the results of all the hard work this team has been putting in by outrunning our own performance from the March race. I am proud of the work everyone is doing at the track and at the shop, and I know that we are all going to make the most out of these last ten races.”
