After of celebrating 10 seasons of Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) partnership with GEICO during NASCAR Throwback weekend at Darlington Raceway, Ty Dillon and the No. 13 GEICO Camaro ZL1 team turn their focus to Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS). The team will travel to the famed racetrack this weekend for the 25th running of the Brickyard 400.
IMS is the site of Dillon’s first NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) win. After starting from the third position in the 2014 race at the 2.5-mile track, Dillon took home the checkered flag. One of his best tracks, he has never finished outside of the top 10 in any of his five NXS races there. Dillon made his MENCS Indianapolis debut last season with the GEICO Racing team and finished in the 19th position.
Dillon Weekend Chatter
What is the challenge for a stock car at a track like Indianapolis?
“I have been successful at Indianapolis in the Xfinity Series, so it’s always a place that I look forward to going each year. It’s a place that I have circled on my calendar, ever since I got my win there. It’s definitely tough because it’s so big but the corners are flat. The unique challenge of making those long straightaways even longer by making Turns 2 and 4 extended straightaways is definitely different than any other track. You give up speed off of Turns 1 and 3 to make sure that you can extend those straightaways off of Turns 2 and 4. That’s always been the strategy that I’ve worked with there. It seems to have worked out well, so I’ll stick with it when I head back there this weekend with my GEICO Racing team.”
