RACE PREVIEW: Pocono Raceway

Ty Dillon and GEICO Racing Team to Take on the “Tricky Triangle”

Weekend Notes

After two weekends of running the military-inspired “geckoflage” paint scheme, GEICO’s primary scheme for the season will return to the No. 13 Camaro ZL1 when the team heads to Pennsylvania. Pocono Raceway, nicknamed the “Tricky Triangle,” is a unique track on the NASCAR circuit with its three completely different turns creating the 2.5-mile triangle.

This weekend will mark Dillon’s fifth Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Pocono Raceway. He has an average start of 28.5 and an average finish of 18.5, with his best finish of 17th coming in July of 2017 with the GEICO Racing team. Dillon has participated in both NASCAR Xfinity Series races held at the track. In those two starts, he has an average start of 11.5 and an average finish of 5.5. He finished in the third position in 2016’s inaugural series race at the track. He also has two NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races under his belt at the triangular track. Dillon has an average start of 6.5 and an average finish of 13.0, with his best finish of sixth place coming in 2012. A former ARCA Racing Series champion, Dillon has two previous Pocono starts in the series, winning the summer event in 2012. He has an average start of 2.0 and an average finish of 2.5.

Dillon Weekend Chatter

What makes the “Tricky Triangle” so tricky?

“Putting all three corners together at Pocono is tricky. It’s almost like being at a road course with its three very unique corners. Being able to put all three corners together is the only way that you can have a perfect lap. You can run super fast through Turn 1, but if you mess up in Turn 2 or Turn 3 then you’re going to have a really bad lap. You have to be perfect in all three corners to have a good race car and have speed. Crew chiefs and engineers have their work cutout for them because they have to setup cars for three completely different corners, and that’s not easy. Our GEICO Racing team is up for the challenge.”

Fans will have the opportunity to see Dillon when he visits the Team Chevy stage on Sunday morning in the fan midway. He will answer questions in a fan Q&A and sign autographs.
