RACE PREVIEW: Dover International Speedway
Ty Dillon and GEICO Racing Team Looking for Redemption at Dover International Speedway
Ty Dillon is taking his No. 13 GEICO Camaro ZL1 back to Dover International Speedway this weekend. In last year’s spring event at the storied track, Dillon led 27 laps and contended for the victory until he was taken out in a wreck during the final laps. Looking for another shot at the win, Dillon will have to battle for 400 miles and avoid a tangle with “Miles the Monster.”
In his three previous Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series starts at Dover, Dillon has an average start of 26.7 and average finish of 22.7. His best finish of 14th place came in the spring race of 2017 in his GEICO Chevrolet. He has led 27 laps of competition. Dillon has logged 10 starts in the NASCAR Xfinity Series at the one-mile track. He has two top-five and seven top-10 finishes, with his best finish of second place coming in the fall of 2016. He has led 11 laps in the series. Dillon has two starts in the NASCAR Camping Word Truck Series at Dover. He earned his best finish of sixth place in 2012, but he was taken out of the race in his second start with a mechanical issue.
Dillon Weekend Chatter
What are your thoughts as we head to Dover after your success there last year?
“Visually, Dover may look like a giant version of Bristol, but it’s really a unique track that stands alone. You dip down into the track and then climb back out of the corners. It’s such a fun track. It’s so fast and gives you a feeling of speed unlike any other. Anytime that we seem to get a bit of temperature there, the groove widens out and makes it even more fun to race. This GEICO Racing team is anxious to get back to Dover. We led 27 laps in this race last year, outrunning Jimmie Johnson there for a while. This is a solid track for our team, and we are hoping for another solid finish to keep building our momentum.”
