RACE PREVIEW: Bristol Motor Speedway

Weekend Notes

Ty Dillon and the GEICO Racing team scored their best finish of the season last weekend when the No. 13 GEICO Camaro ZL1 crossed the Texas Motor Speedway finish line in 13th place. Coming off a strong run, the team is carrying that energy to Bristol Motor Speedway this weekend. In Dillon’s last visit to the “Last Great Colosseum” in the fall of 2017, he was taken out early after a crash left him unable to continue. With the momentum generated by solid weekends in both Martinsville and Texas, Dillon is looking to come out of this trip to the colosseum on top.

This will be Dillon’s fourth start at the short track in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. In his previous three races, he scored his best finish of 15th in the GEICO Chevrolet in the spring of 2017. He has an average start of 26.7 and an average finish of 25.3. Dillon has logged nine NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at Bristol. He has tied his best finish of fourth place three times and has only finished outside of the top-10 once after being sidelined by a crash. In his three NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts, Dillon earned his best finish of sixth place in 2013. He has an average start of 12.7 and an average finish of 16.7.

Dillon Weekend Chatter

What are your thoughts as the series heads to Bristol Motor Speedway?

“I like Bristol a lot. I’ve run extremely well there in the Xfinity Series and have had a couple shots to win. Our GEICO Racing team ran well in last year’s spring race. It was definitely a learning curve for me because I had only driven a Cup car there once before, but we kept ourselves alive with good track position and were able to bring home a top-15 finish. The summer race wasn’t as kind to us, but that happens at Bristol. They don’t call it the ‘Last Great Colosseum’ for nothing. I’m looking forward to heading up there this weekend though. Our season didn’t start off how we wanted it to, but that didn’t stop this team from grinding and working at it. Now we are seeing the results of that hard work start to show. We’re carrying a lot of momentum into Bristol, and it’s our job to make something happen with it. I know that we will.”
