The Driver’s Wheel…thoughts from Ty Dillon

…On getting back to Daytona for racing action:

"I felt like this Germain Racing team really had a great car at Daytona and I've been looking forward to getting back there. Every time I run a superspeedway race I feel a little more comfortable. It's important to feel comfortable because you've got to be aggressive. This team has gotten better every week we've been together. I know we didn't get the finish we deserved in February. It will be fun to unload the GEICO Military Chevrolet SS there and see what we can do at Daytona with more races under our belts."

Inspiration for our GEICO Military Chevrolet SS

…GEICO and the military:

GEICO has a proud, longstanding relationship with the military that has become stronger and more enduring every year. In 1936, Leo and Lillian Goodwin’s vision for the company centered on providing insurance for government employees, military personnel and their families. Since that time, GEICO has been serving the men and women of our U.S. Armed Forces through a variety of programs and services at home and overseas during wartime as well as peacetime. The military continues to be an integral part of GEICO and the company is honored to support those who have sacrificed so much.

…Custom Camo Military Car:

“The men and women who serve in the U.S. Armed Forces are the cornerstone of GEICO’s success and remain the company’s most esteemed policyholders,” said GEICO representative. “The Custom Camo Military Car is a small gesture of GEICO’s appreciation to military personnel and their families for their sacrifice, bravery and courage.”

More on GEICO and the Military…

GEICO has been dedicated to serving the U.S. military since the company's founding in 1936. The company's first customers were enlisted service members and other federal employees. GEICO provides discount programs and service options that can best serve U.S. troops at home and overseas during wartime as well as peacetime. Many programs that GEICO sponsors and supports have a direct impact on the men and women that serve in our Armed Forces. We operate a dedicated Military Service Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia, staffed by more than 120 veterans from all branches of the military. The Center serves active duty, guard, reserve, retired military personnel and their families with specialized insurance programs.

Every year since 1988, GEICO has honored members of the U.S. military for their contributions toward drug and alcohol abuse prevention, fire safety and fire prevention or traffic safety and accident prevention with the GEICO Military Service Awards. GEICO also supports the USO and the programs it provides to military members and their families. In addition to corporate donations, GEICO associates contribute many hours of volunteer time to regional USO chapters. GEICO also sponsors the USO, Inc. Mobile Canteen that travels around the country supporting military homecomings and other celebrations and events.

GEICO is also the sponsor of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund traveling Vietnam wall, a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., that travels throughout the country and also features a traveling museum and information center. And the company provides financial support to the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), a national nonprofit organization that is made up of, and provides services to, those who have lost a loved one on active duty with the armed forces. GEICO also supports the Fisher House Foundation, which provides free or low-cost lodging to veterans and military families receiving treatment at military medical centers.

In 2009, GEICO contributed funds to the Disabled Veterans' LIFE Memorial Foundation (DVLMF) to help build the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial, the nation’s first permanent memorial honoring disabled veterans. Through scholarship programs, GEICO assists military members and their families in their quest for higher education.

Annual donations are made to support the scholarship programs of the National Military Family Association, the Navy Chief Petty Officers Association, the Special Operations Warriors Foundation, the Fleet Reserve Association Scholarship Foundation, the Wings Over America Foundation and the Anchor Scholarship Fund. An annual Army ROTC scholarship is awarded through the Association of the US Army. GEICO partners with The University of Maryland University College on the GEICO Federal/Military Scholarship. The Military scholarship is targeted to dependents of Military members. GEICO is a corporate partner of the Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP), a program that helps connect military spouses with jobs and provides them with training to enter a new career field.
