TWISTED13 RACE REPORT: MICHIGAN

No. 13 Twisted Tea Chevrolet SS
In his third Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series start at Michigan International Speedway, Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender Ty Dillon started the 200 lap FireKeepers Casino 400 knowing he’d have some extra work to do to get his Twisted Tea Chevrolet SS moved up in the running order. Dillon took the green flag in last place, but made up ground immediately, working from 37th to 23rd in three laps.
As the field settled into a race rhythm, the Twisted Tea Chevy slid back to P25 and showed it needed some adjustments to keep up with the pack.
“We’re too loose guys. Really too loose getting in,” said Dillon, who didn’t like how the Twisted Tea Chevy handled getting into the corners.
Wedge adjustments proved to be the winning ticket for Dillon. Some strong pit work by the Twisted Tea crew also played into the improved speed and track position of the No. 13 Chevy. Dillon pulled into the top-20 and was able to stay there as the FireKeepers Casino 400 ended with a series of cautions and restarts.
“Great job, Ty. P20. You earned it. You earned every bit of it. Nice job men. Good work on pit road. Ty, you really did great out there,” said crew chief Bootie Barker after the race finish.
"Thanks guys. Way to battle! Man. Way to fight,” said Dillon to the crew over the radio after the checkered flag.
Dillon summed up the day, “This Germain Racing team really gave it everything today. The guys battled on pit road. When we started off the race, the Twisted Tea Chevy was really loose, but Bootie and the guys came up with some adjustments that really helped get us in great shape. Once we hit on the right changes, the car just kept getting better. On the very last green flag, the car didn't fire off the best, but, we were able to hang in there. This was a team effort today. It was a battle, and I'm really proud of the fight this No. 13 team put in."
This was the final of three races for Twisted Tea as primary sponsor on the No. 13 Germain Racing Chevy. Twisted Tea remains an associate sponsor and can be seen just behind the door number on the GEICO and GEICO Military Chevrolets throughout the season.
Sonoma Raceway is next up for the Germain Racing crew. Ty Dillon will drive the No. 13 GEICO Chevrolet SS in his first road course race in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. Caymus Vineyards returns as a major associate sponsor on the GEICO Chevy at Sonoma.
