The Driver’s Wheel…thoughts from Ty Dillon

…on how do you prioritize which turns to work on most when setting up the GEICO Chevy for the Axalta Pocono 400?

“I think you try to focus on Turns 1 and 3. Those are the longer straightaways that you have coming off of those two corners. The Tunnel Turn is something that, as a driver, you can work on throughout the day to make your car get through there a little bit better. I ran pretty well there last year, so with how this Germain Racing team has been performing, I’m really looking forward to going back there with the No. 13 GEICO Chevrolet SS. I enjoy racing at Pocono. It’s one of my favorite tracks, and, as much as I love the outdoors, it’s one of my favorite areas to go to. I'm looking forward to having a shot there.”

…on if there is a significant "sensation of speed" for drivers at Pocono?

“The front straightaway is so long that it reminds you of Indy a little bit with all that speed you are gathering going into Turn 1. But Turn 1 at Pocono Raceway is so tight you have to slow down to what feels like a really slow pace, and then you wind the GEICO Chevy’s motor back up down another long straightaway. You really have the three totally different corners - so the ‘Tricky Triangle’ is very interesting. You kind of approach it a little bit different than most tracks you go to that are the same in each corner. When you have three totally different corners, you are kind of dissecting the race track almost the same way you do a road course, not that it feels like a road course, but the way you think about what you need in the race car is the same.”
