The Driver’s Wheel…thoughts from Ty Dillon

…on racing the No. 13 Twisted Tea Chevrolet SS in the Go Bowling 400 at Kansas:

"I think night racing is cool. I enjoy running under the lights. I am definitely looking forward to getting our No. 13 Twisted Tea Chevrolet on track at Kansas for Saturday night's Go Bowling 400. I don't know if Kansas Speedway has gained more grip with time, but I think the groove has widened out. You can run top to bottom and that makes it a lot of fun. I look forward to going back to Kansas with another year of weather on the track to see what we can do there."

Crew Chief Quips:

Bootie Barker…on Kansas Speedway racing for Go Bowling 400:

“Kansas Speedway changes every time we go there. Every track does, if you think about it. The track will probably be a little bit tighter this visit than last. It seems to trend that way. There are three different approaches to setting up your race car for Kansas. Ty Dillon has shown he likes the more aggressive setups. We are using all the tools we have from our RCR technical alliance, from Chevrolet, from our notes, and from our communications with Ty to choose our starting point for the Twisted Tea Chevrolet because we really need to get working on qualifying pretty quickly on Friday.”

…On how he thinks the team is at this point in time:

“Our team is off to an excellent start. Heading into Kansas race weekend, we certainly have our expectations on how we should run, and where we want to finish. We’ve been able to run top-20 everywhere, unless we’ve had some type of issues we couldn’t get around. We want to win races, win all the trophies, sure, but, we know that if we are running in the top-12 every weekend, then we have this Germain Racing team in position for all that. Importantly, we know we are in position to get into the Chase. We have the confidence we can get there, but we aren’t trying anything exceptionally different to leap to that level. Instead, we are staying our course. We are on the right path.”

…On how he thinks Stage points have affected racing:

“Postively. The stage points are critical. It doesn’t take a second for the crew chiefs and drivers to realize how important it is to score points in the stages. At Richmond, we grabbed our first points, and, we want them every week. I’d say you’ll see us and everyone else continue to get more and more aggressive about the stage points as the season moves on.”
