The Driver’s Wheel…thoughts from Ty Dillon

…on what he can bring from Daytona to Talladega for the GEICO 500:

“We had a good shot at Daytona and a fast car. We missed a lot of the crashes. Hopefully Talladega isn’t as melee-crazy as Daytona was. The biggest notes to take into the GEICO 500 are…stay out of the crashes, keep the GEICO Chevrolet clean, and be in a position to make a move at the end.”

…on if the Stage/Segment racing contributed to the number of crashes at Daytona:

“Ah, I’d say so. I think people were a little aggressive at Daytona. You know, we waited all off season to learn about the new format. People were raring to go and they see how important those points are. A lot of people didn’t get to score those points because they were on the hook. The stages are pretty intense. I know we are happy to have some stage points in the bank. It’s really important to me to get the GEICO Chevy in position for stage points.”

…on what fans can expect from the racing at the GEICO 500 at Talladega:

“These days in the Monster Energy Cup Series, the competition is intense every single lap. A place like Talladega is especially intense. You don’t get a mental break unless you’re under a caution, and even that’s not really a break because you’re thinking about how you’ll survive the next run. It makes for a really exciting race for both drivers and fans. We have to be on our game because if we make a mistake as drivers, our day can be over in an instant. And the fans have to be on their toes because if they blink they’ll miss what could be the winning move of the race. Nobody will want to miss the GEICO 500.”

Crew Chief Quips:

Bootie Barker…on GEICO 500 weekend:

“There's no question, there’s extra pride heading into the weekend when your sponsor is the title sponsor of the race. But, there’s also a lot of pride in this GEICO Chevrolet team in our superspeedway program. We’ve worked hard to develop our competitive reputation at tracks like this and carrying that into Talladega, for the GEICO 500, means a lot.”
