…on how he feels about racing on Texas Motor Speedway’s repaved 1.5 mile surface:
"I think the first year it’s going to be a little bit tough at Texas Motor Speedway. It seems like every time you repave a track the first couple of years is tough. There have been some tracks that we have had great racing right off the bat, so hopefully that is the case. It’s going to be extremely fast, so that just makes it a little bit tougher for the racing."
…on how prepared he feels for the race at Texas:
“It is certainly going to be, for me, a unique situation where we show up to race the track and we don’t have a test on that surface. The great thing is that behind the GEICO Chevrolet SS team, we have Chevy engineers. Pat Suhy and the Chevrolet Racing Group have really put in a lot of hours to help the Chevy teams be as prepared for the unknowns as we can be. It’s one of the awesome things about being a Chevy team, a Chevy driver.”
Crew Chief Quips:
Bootie Barker…on preparing for Texas Motor Speedway’s repaved/reshaped track...
“Texas has always had a way of throwing surprises at you of some sort. This repave and the reshaping of turns one and two, really resets the playbooks. The support we’ve had from Chevy and our RCR alliance has helped us get a baseline setup for the GEICO Chevrolet SS. From there we just need to find the sweet spot where we can roll the centers at both ends of the track, and that is going to be the challenge, for sure.”
…on team fans tuning in this weekend...
“This weekend might be the best opportunity for fans to experience the Raceview program on their computers and smart phones. The program is free this weekend for fans at nascar.com/Raceview and I’m sure the scanning on Sunday will be interesting to hear the crew chiefs, the spotters and the drivers learning about racing at the newly repaved Texas Motor Speedway.”
This weekend, our No. 13 GEICO Chevrolet SS features associate sponsorship from Twisted Tea, Sherwin Williams Automotive Finishes, ZAK Products, Wix Filters and Caymus Vineyards. Germain Racing is proud to be a Lincoln Electric team.
