The Driver’s Wheel…thoughts from Ty Dillon
…on comparing Auto Club Speedway and sister track Michigan International Speedway:
“This will be my Monster Energy Series debut at Fontana, so my experience there has been in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Auto Club is worn out and really rough, but it’s five lanes wide. Michigan has been repaved so it is still kind of a narrow-groove race track, but it’s starting to widen out a little bit more. I feel like you have to slow down so much in the corners at Fontana just because of the lack of grip. There are a lot more bumps at Fontana, too. There are a lot of differences. I’m looking forward to seeing what the Germain Racing guys have prepared for me in the No. 13 Twisted Tea Chevrolet SS.”
…on if he prefers racing high, against the wall, or the bottom groove, staying tight the stripe?
“I race whatever is fastest. I grew up dirt racing, so I’m used to chasing that grip and that definitely carries over into NASCAR.”
…on celebrities…is there one he’d like to see attend the Fontana race?
“Probably Leonardo DiCaprio.”
Crew Chief Quips:
Bootie Barker…on setting up the Twisted Tea Chevrolet SS for Fontana:
“There was certainly a time when you could pull out your Michigan notebook and apply it to your Fontana setups. That just isn’t the case anymore. The tracks both need aero packages, but, the chassis demands are getting more and more unique each season. Every trip we take to Fontana, the track is more worn out and it makes it a different experience.”
This weekend, our No. 13 Chevrolet SS features primary sponsorship for the first of three races from Twisted Tea, major associate branding from GEICO and showcases associate sponsorship relationships with Sherwin Williams Automotive Finishes, ZAK Products, Wix Filters and Caymus Vineyards. Germain Racing is proud to be a Lincoln Electric team.
