Today the GEICO Racing team was scheduled for two practice sessions in preparation for the Daytona 500 race on Sunday. The team first had to repair crash damage on the right side of the No. 13 GEICO Chevrolet SS that was incurred in last night's CanAm Duel race.
The crash repair kept the team in the garage throughout the 1:00 PM practice session but Ty Dillon took the GEICO Chevy out at 3:00 PM and posted a time of 9th quick. He completed 22 laps and he and crew chief Bootie Barker were pleased with how the car performed.
Crew chief Bootie Barker:
"What we have left to do is finish putting the GEICO Chevy back together after we rebuilt the right side of the car, and, we have to install our Daytona 500 race motor. As far as changes - right now, I think we are very comfortable with how the GEICO Chevy is performing on track. We drafted with it today, and, with what we learned in the CanAm Duel, tomorrow our focus in final practice will really be to shake down the 500 motor."
