TY DILLON, NO. 13 GEICO CHEVROLET SS – Qualified 12th
Ty Dillon finished 22nd in opening practice for the Daytona 500 on Saturday at Daytona International Speedway, Daytona Beach, Fla. On Sunday afternoon, he was back on track again in the GEICO Chevrolet SS for Daytona 500 pole qualifying.
Dillon went out 21st in the opening round of qualifying and posted the second fastest time. He ranked 12th after the remainder of cars made their qualifying runs. This made the GEICO Chevy the first car in line to post a qualifying time in round two. After both rounds were completed, Dillon ranked 12th.
The Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender spoke with Team Chevy PR about his qualifying sessions:
“It was a really good day for Germain Racing and our GEICO Chevy. Every time we got on the track we got faster and faster. It was nice to see that we have some speed. Now we are going to work on getting this Chevy handling...and try to make some friends in practice and in the 150’s that want to work with us for the (Daytona) 500 and just go have fun.”
Next up for Ty Dillon and the No. 13 GEICO Chevy will be the Can-Am Duels on Thursday, February 23rd. Dillon starts sixth in the second Duel, which will air on FS1 at approximately 9 PM ET on Thursday evening.
