Mooresville, N.C. (August 25, 2010) – With three races remaining on the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East schedule for 2010, Germain Racing’s rookie driver Zach Germain and his No. 24 Germain.com Camry team are ready to put to use all they’ve learned when the series rolls into Gresham Motorsports Park for the American Fence Association 150 Presented By Mayfield Ice Creamier on Saturday night.

 “Our Germain.com Camry team was able to test at Gresham last week and it gave us all a big confidence boost. Gresham Motorsports Park is a first-class facility. The track is super fast with great banking. I think the testing we did will help our team because I’ve had a chance to figure out the line and we have a good baseline for our chassis setup,” said Germain, who captured a tenth-place finish in his first NASCAR career race at the season opener in Greenville, SC.

 Continuous improvement was a primary goal of the No. 24 team at the start of the season. After 6 races, a top-ten finish and a 14th-place rank in the championship standings, it remains the most important goal on the weekly checklist.

 “For the Germain.com Camry team to say we’ve had a good weekend at Gresham, we will want to see continued improvements in our qualifying effort and competitive racing with a strong result. We are still a young team and we’ve learned a lot together this year. We want to keep improving,” explained the 25 year-old Columbus, OH, native, who earned his best starting spot of the season in the last K&N Pro Series race at Lee USA Speedway where he lined up 12th.

 In addition to testing with the No. 24 team, Germain has been able to learn from his fellow Germain Racing teammates in the Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series.

 “Germain Racing competes in all three of NASCAR’s top divisions. During the off-weeks, I’ve been able to utilize some of the resources we have here for a rookie driver. I observed our other race teams and listened to team radio communications. My perspective has evolved,” said Germain, who will be part of Funopolis Fanfest at Funopolis Family Fun Center on Friday night in Commerce.

 Jamie Jones will call the shots for Germain and the No. 24 Germain.com Camry again this weekend. Jones is looking forward to racing at Gresham after what the team learned in last week’s test session.

 “We had a good test at Gresham last week and I feel we’ll have a good, competitive day,” said Jones, who will lead the No. 24 Germain.com Camry team for the second race this season.

Mooresville, NC (08/02/2010) – Germain Racing’s rookie driver, Zach Germain, put in hours and hours of preparation before heading to Lee USA Speedway. It showed. Germain had the No. 24 Germain.com Camry in very competitive form at the New Hampshire short track where he turned in his best qualifying effort to date and spent many of the 125 laps of Friday night’s race dicing it up among the top-ten race cars and picked up a spot in the series points standings when the checkered flag waved.

“I have to say that Lee USA Speedway was a pretty good combination of the two tracks we used for testing. The banking was similar to Hickory, but the shape was a little more Caraway. I was prepared for the worst as far as grip, and it was good because I felt like the track had more grip than I expected it to,” said Germain who moved up to 14^th in the K&N Pro Series East standings following his 17^th-place finish at Lee.

When one thinks of a 3/8-mile short track, beating and banging are much more top of mind than finesse and accuracy. Germain learned that he actually was going to have to have a perfect blend of all of these at Lee.

“The track was the most line-sensitive track I’ve raced yet. Even more so than the road course. And while you’re trying to focus on the line, there are cars running into the back of you, the side of you, you are running into cars ahead of you. It was intense. We’ve raced short tracks this year, but, I think Lee was the most exciting race this year,” said Germain, who wished the team could’ve finished in the top-ten, where he had spent much of the 125 laps racing.

Qualifying was a big victory for Germain and the No. 24 Germain.com Camry. With a previous best in qualifying coming at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, the Columbus, OH, native posted a 12-place time in qualifying which was 3/10s off of the pole speed.

“What I’m learning is that qualifying is about who has the most confidence, and at Lee, I felt a lot more confident. I think I made a lot of progress, overall. My car control is better and I’m feeling more confident in the car. We tried to put the car on the edge and we got 12^th. We have room for more improvement, of course, but as a team we are definitely moving in the right direction,” said Germain.

Germain’s biggest fans, mom, Kim, and dad, Steve, agreed Lee was a huge transformation for their son.

“My mom and dad actually watched the race from the grandstands at Lee. My mom sent me a ton of text messages afterward telling me how excited she was – that she was screaming ‘go Zach go’ and that it was really fun for her watching how are team performed at Lee,” said Germain.

 Mooresville, N.C. (July 23, 2010) – Rookie driver Zach Germain has raced on a wide variety of tracks this season in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. This week, the series returns to the type of track that reminds Germain of his roots—Lee USA Speedway, a 3/8-mile short track.

 “This weekend will definitely bring back fond memories of everyone at Columbus Motor Speedway. Lee USA Speedway is an old, short race track and from the photos I’ve seen, it reminds me of my hometrack,” said Germain, the 25 year old from Columbus, OH.

 Unlike when he first raced a short track, Germain is going into the Lee bullring with hundreds upon hundreds of laps of short track experience—much of it very fresh in his mind.

 “The No. 24 team here at Germain Racing has been very busy since our last K&N Pro Series East race at Lime Rock. We have had the Germain.com Camry on track testing several times in the last couple weeks and we’ve logged a ton of laps. At Hickory last week we completed a 130-lap tire run which really taught me a lot about how my car will change throughout the race this Friday night at Lee,” explained Germain.

 Ever studious, the Miami University of Ohio graduate is excited about the latest ‘professor’ to lead his efforts with the No. 24 Germain.com Camry.

 “From the beginning of this season, I knew that our main focus each time we fire up the Germain.com Camry was education. It was about me learning the race cars, the tracks, and how to communicate with the crew. Jaime (“JJ”) Jones will call the shots for me this week at Lee USA and he’s been a great asset to have on our team through our last couple test sessions. JJ has worked with young, rookie drivers in NASCAR and he has a great way of letting you learn your lessons on your own in the car,” said Germain.

 One such lesson Germain learned was that slower can be much faster.

 “As we were working on older and older tires in our test sessions, I realized I needed to feather the throttle more to control the car. It turned out the lap times were much faster when I was running at 75 or 85 percent throttle. JJ was very excited to see me learn this ‘on my own.’ I’m looking forward to having him along with our No. 24 team this week at Lee,” said Germain.

 The Germain.com Camry races at Lee USA Speedway on Friday, July 30th, at 8:30 PM Eastern. The 125-lap race will be broadcast on SPEED on Thursday, August 5th at 6:00 PM Eastern.

MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- Decisions, decisions. For Zach Germain, there really was no decision to be made.

"Race cars or sell cars?" the Bexley, Ohio, native recalled of weighing his future options late in the summer of 2009. "It was the easiest decision I've ever had to make."

As the son of Steve Germain, who owns Germain Motor Company with his brothers, the 25-year-old Zach got a relatively late start in racing. Despite Germain Motorsports fielding entries in each of NASCAR's top three national series -- Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Trucks -- there was very little pressure on Zach Germain to pursue a racing career.

In fact, he says, there was none.

"It was definitely me putting the pressure on everybody else to get into racing," he said. "The more I've been around it, I've wanted to pursue it more and more."

As hard as it is to believe, Zach Germain -- a rookie in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East in 2010 -- is just four years into his career as a driver. He spent parts of three seasons in Legends cars at Columbus Motor Speedway near his hometown, and then in 2009 competed full-time at that track in its Super Late Model division.

Germain said he only got started in racing when his family did. And despite Germain Racing's success in places like the Camping World Truck Series, the organization is still a relative newcomer to NASCAR.

"We're pretty new when you compare us to the other bigger teams in the sport," Germain said. "We got started in NASCAR in 2004, and I didn't start racing myself until 2006.

"It wasn't something that I set out to do when I was younger. But I saw my family getting into NASCAR and that got me thinking. I've always had a fascination with cars from very early on."

And while some of the other drivers he races against in the K&N Pro Series have been racing since they were seven or eight years old, Germain hasn't. Which is not to say he had no experience behind the wheel of a car.

It just wasn't a race car.

"I've been driving cars around the parking lot since I was a kid," Germain said as he started laughing. "When I was 12 years old, I could drive a manual (shift). I wasn't out racing go-karts like Cole Whitt or some of the others, but I was running '100-lap races' on a new car lot.

"Instead of running into walls, I was running into other new cars."

Germain always viewed his future in the family business of selling cars. When he headed off to Miami (Ohio) University, he'd still never turned a competitive lap behind the wheel of a stock car. In fact, it wasn't until he was well on his way to earning a political science degree that he ended up racing Legends.

Germain figured racing would be something fun on the side while he looked at heading to law school, following in the footsteps of his older sister.

In a strange twist of fate, though, a broken hand and wrist in 2008 -- suffered while racing his Legend car -- sidelined Germain for half that season. It was then that he realized how difficult it was to sit on the sidelines and not race.

The next season, he was in a Super Late Model. He finished seventh in Columbus Motor Speedway's standings in 2009. This year, he jumped into the deep end of a racing career with both feet.

"I just knew that if I was really going to do this, I needed to pursue it to a much greater degree than I  was," said Germain, who has one top-10 in five races this season in the No. 24 Germain.com Toyota. "I knew that if I hadn't have poured myself into it, I always would have looked back later on and wondered, 'What if?'"

This year, Germain packed up and moved to Mooresville, N.C., -- the NASCAR hub -- and cleared out a conference room above the race shop where his cars are prepared. That's where he lives now. Every morning, he's up at 6:45 and joins the guys 15 minutes later working on the team’s K&N Series cars.

For a driver sporting a trademark 'faux-hawk' atop his head -- a strip of hair spiked tall along the middle of his head -- image is, well, everything.

"I know that there are some drivers in the past in this sport who haven't had the best, well ..." Germain pauses, choosing his words carefully, perhaps to draw from that political science background. "Let's just say, some teams would rather not have drivers around because they're not the hardest workers in the world.

"I wasn't going to let them say that about me. I don't want people to ever be able to hold it against me that I'm the son of the team owner with all the money, and I'm lackadaisical and not approaching everything like it matters. ... Sometimes I think that makes me work even harder at this."

Germain feels that being older than most traditional rookies gives him a maturity to understand the bigger picture. That maturity also helps with a steep learning curve.

"It's definitely a learning curve," Germain said. "And I know I've made mistakes at a much higher level than I probably should have. Unfortunately, that's the truth -- I just haven't had the seat time at the local tracks over the years. But everyone's been really gracious with me and supportive, and I feel like as long as I don't make the same mistakes twice, they'll continue to help me and be supportive.

"Every type of car I've raced -- going from Legends to Super Late Models, from Super Late Models to the K&N cars -- it's been night and day different. Every lap I get more and more comfortable and learn a lot. I've learned a tremendous amount in five races. Look at Iowa Speedway -- the biggest track I'd ever been on and I wrecked early. But I learned a lot, and I wish I could go back now and try again."

Despite the trials and tribulations, Germain is as committed to racing as ever.

"There is nothing better than racing cars," said Germain, who has no timetable for a graduation from the K&N Pro Series but has an ultimate goal of racing a Camping World Truck. "The rush, the atmosphere, all of it is unbelievable to me.

"I told my dad the other day and he laughed at me, but I'm living the dream. I'm so fortunate to be able to put things on hold for a while and chase my dream like this. I'm just trying to do my part to make that happen."

Mooresville, N.C. (June 30, 2010) – Zach Germain is very pleased with the variety of race tracks that are represented by the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. The rookie driver will make his road course debut this weekend at Lime Rock Park, just a week after racing on the second of three Sprint Cup Series race tracks on the K&N Pro Series. Germain thinks his team is ready for the challenge of turning right and left at Lime Rock.

“With what this Germain.com Camry team has been able to accomplish in the last two races, I am very confident that we can have a good race weekend at Lime Rock. In preparation for the Lime Rock race weekend, Germain, a graduate of Miami University of Ohio,  has gone back to school.

“I’ve enrolled in the Skip Barber Racing School at Lime Rock and the program has been amazing. All of the tracks we race in the K&N Pro Series are new to me, so usually I will try to prepare on a simulator, or to go through notes from our Germain Racing teams.  For Lime Rock, the experience has been much different. We had classroom time, then ride-along time before we drove on the course. One of the Skip Barber instructors is a former East Series driver who has competed at Lime Rock, so the information I’ve been able to learn has given me a lot of comfort heading into the race weekend,” said Germain.

With Germain Racing’s No. 30 Germain.com Tundra team off this weekend, Tom Ackerman, shock specialist for the points-leading truck, will travel to Lime Rock to work with the No. 24 Germain.com Camry team.

“This will be the second time Tom has been a part of our race team this season. He came to Martinsville Speedway along with several of our teammates from the 30 truck. Tom has been a crew chief in the Truck Series, he’s won races, and he’s a tireless team player. I know the guys are excited about having him along this weekend at Lime Rock,” said Germain.

Mooresville, N.C. (06-27-2010) – Zach Germain has completed competition on two very tough NASCAR Sprint Cup Series  race tracks and has earned a wealth of experience to use for his budding NASCAR career. In race number five on the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East schedule, Germain raced the No. 24 Germain.com Camry at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. He earned his best qualifying spot of the season, 18th, and finished the 125-lap race in 17th.

“First of all, this Germain Racing team turned in another great performance. The Germain.com Camry we brought to the race track handled very well and we were able to earn our best qualifying effort of the season on a challenging, Sprint Cup Series race track. We ran through a 55-lap green flag run, which was a new experience for me. The car was very loose at the start of the race, then it got tight. The crew made good adjustments and kept making the Germain.com Camry better. All in all, it was a great effort and I’m very proud of this No. 24 team,” said Germain, who ranks 15^th in the series standings after five races.

New Hampshire Motor Speedway provided rookie driver Germain and his team with another weekend of solid gains and solid experience.

“This weekend we knew there would be many opportunities to learn, and we were able to gain positive experience from every one of them. Our pit stops were very good. Whether we took fuel-only or tires, my team did great stops. I experienced several three-wide restarts, a lot of beating and banging and the long green flag run. We worked through a variety of handling conditions and I learned a lot about how my input into the steering wheel affects the handling of the car. New Hampshire is a track that is very ‘line-sensitive.’ I can’t wait to unload our Germain.com Camry at Lime Rock,” said Germain.

Mooresville, N.C. (June 22, 2010) – Germain Racing driver Zach Germain is looking forward to taking his first ever trip to New Hampshire Motor Speedway this weekend. The 25 year-old Columbus, Ohio, native, sees his debut on the 1.058-mile oval as an opportunity to learn and prepare for the team’s return to the Sprint Cup Series race track in September. With momentum from a strong performance at Martinsville, the No. 24 Germain.com Camry NASCAR K&N Pro Series East team plans to rack up another top-15 finish and build a strong play-book for the New Hampshire race track.

“The focus for me and this No. 24 Germain.com Camry team this entire season has been on education. We want to gain the most from each race weekend that we can. Going to New Hampshire to race Friday means we have a chance to test, practice and prepare for our return in September. It makes every lap this weekend more valuable because we will get a chance to reuse everything we learn in Friday’s New England 125,” said Germain, a 2007 graduate of Miami University of Ohio. 

Germain and the No. 24 crew carry some extra confidence into New Hampshire. Along with their top-15 finish at Martinsville Speedway still fresh on their minds, the crew gets to work again with Mike Hillman Jr., crew chief of the No. 30 Germain.com Tundra.

“We don’t get the chance to work with Junior every weekend, so, having him with us at New Hampshire is a bonus. The team really enjoyed his help in Martinsville and I know I was able to learn a lot from him. I think it will be a great experience for us and his experience at New Hampshire will help build our notes for when we return in September,” said Germain.

Hillman could race every weekend if he didn’t enjoy spending time with his family so much. He is looking forward to sneaking in another K&N Pro Series East race weekend.

“Germain Racing’s goal with our K&N Pro Series East program is to let younger drivers gain experience at race tracks that will benefit them in the future. I think at Martinsville from where we started to where we ended we made big gains. If it was up to me we could race our truck 36 times a year like the Cup cars but since we don’t, it gives me an opportunity to work with our other teams and drivers. I had a blast at Martinsville. Hopefully this weekend at New Hampshire we can make more steps in the right direction, improving our K&N team and our driver development program,” said Hillman.

Mooresville, NC (06-08-2010) – NASCAR K&N Pro Series East rookie Zach Germain raced Sunday afternoon in the rain-shortened event at Martinsville Speedway. The Ohio native raced his way through the field to ninth-place before getting caught on pit road by the rainfall and then finishing 15^th in his fourth NASCAR career start. The weekend was a unique and intense learning experience for Germain who had what he considered to be an all-star crew.

“Our Germain.com Camry team learned and accomplished more than I could have hoped for this weekend at Martinsville Speedway. A lot of that is due to our teammates on the No. 30 Valvoline Tundra crew that came straight to Martinsville on Saturday after winning the race in Texas on Friday night. For me and my team, having them there allowed us to learn in very controlled steps throughout the practice sessions, qualifying and the race. We achieved our team goal of completing all of the laps and we really competed this weekend. It was wild. There was a lot of beating and banging but that’s Martinsville,” said Germain.

Germain received driver-coaching from Truck Series champion Todd Bodine and learned that sometimes different setups simply require different driving styles.

“At first, I had a tough time figuring out my braking and throttle points through the corners. Todd Bodine was generous enough to come out first thing after his Texas win and help me. He was very helpful when it came to a fast line around the track. Mike Hillman Jr. made great changes to the Germain.com Camry and during the last five laps of the first practice I finally figured out my style of driving around Martinsville. It was a great feeling,” explained Germain.

Mike Hillman Jr. didn’t plan to go to Martinsville Speedway to handle the crew chief role for the rookie driver and young team, but, Hillman loves being a crew chief and doing anything he can to make Germain Racing a success on the race track. Hillman explained that he used a different approach with Germain than he does with his regular driver, Bodine.

“The way I approached Saturday and Sunday was a lot different than the way I approached Thursday and Friday because then I was working with Todd Bodine, and I know by the tone of Todd’s voice what he needs changed. Working with Zach, in my first K&N Pro Series East race, I knew that it was our first race together, and I knew that what’s most important is completing all of the race laps, all of practice – every lap possible. With Zach being a rookie driver at a Cup Series facility like Martinsville, track time is extremely valuable. I listened to Zach’s feedback, made changes and listened to hear him react to and understand those changes. It worked great and we improved the car every time,” said Hillman.

Hillman and his crew members had been anxious to work a K&N Pro Series race since the season began, but Martinsville was the first time the scheduling worked out.

“I love racing. I love being a crew chief. Working with Zach and the 24 crew, and our sister team, the No. 77 Camry with Jeff (McClure) and Miguel (Paludo) in the East Series was really fun. We have two great teams competing in the K&N Series and this weekend made me even more proud to work for Germain Racing,” said Hillman.

Mooresville, NC (June 7, 2010) - Germain Racing clinched its seventh Texas Motor Speedway victory on Friday night when Todd Bodine drove the No. 30 Valvoline Tundra to the winner's circle in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. The win was Bodine's sixth at Texas.

Saturday was race day at Nashville Superspeedway for Michael Annett and the No. 15 Pilot Travel Centers Camry. Annett started 20th and finished 14th in the 225-lap event.

Sunday in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series  race at Pocono Raceway, Max Papis started 20th in the No. 13 GEICO Camry and finished 34th.
Also on Sunday, Zach Germain drove the Germain.com Camry to a 15th-place finish at Martinsville Speedway in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East.

Mooresville, N.C. (May 19, 2010) – Zach Germain, a rookie of the year candidate, is looking forward to the third race of the 2010 NASCAR K&N Pro Series schedule—Iowa Speedway. Since his top-ten finish in his series debut at the season opener competing at South Boston, Germain has picked up a new associate sponsor, JaxWax, and he’s made the most of his affiliation with Germain Racing. The Columbus, OH, native travelled as a pit crew member, observed Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series races and logged hours behind the wheel of a racing simulator and a pit stop practice car. Germain is anxious to pull these experiences together when he tightens his belts for the Goodyear Dealers of Iowa 200 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East/West Challenge on May 23rd.

 “Iowa’s K&N Pro Series East/West Challenge will be the longest race of my career, so I’m definitely anxious to get the race weekend started. It’s the biggest track I’ve raced on, but I’ve talked to several veteran drivers and they’ve told me that racing there is just about the basics—lift, set, turn, squeeze. Lift the throttle, settle the car in the corner, turn out of the corner and squeeze the accelerator. I’ve got that set of rules racing through my mind along with the best advice my parents can give me—patience,” said Germain, who will race on the 7/8-mile Iowa Speedway for 200 laps.

Before the on-track activity begins, Zach Germain will have a busy week including an appearance at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, N.C., and NASCAR Day Bowling Event.

“After six weeks ‘off’ between the K&N Pro Series races, May has become very busy. This week we have a lot of sponsor and fan visits at our Germain Racing headquarters, and my family will be in town for the NASCAR Hall of Fame Induction Dinner Gala before we travel to Iowa for the race and the NASCAR Day Bowling Challenge at Bass Pro Shops in Altoona. Next week, the excitement continues in the Charlotte area as even more fans and guests visit the shop during the week of the Coca-Cola 600,” said Germain.

During the down-time in the NKNPSE schedule, Germain did his best to keep his focus on racing.

“Our team’s pit coach, Phil Horton, set me up with some opportunities to drive a pit stop practice car that has a manual transmission. We’ve been to pit road in the Germain.com Camry already this season, and I think the experience we had at Greenville was great preparation, but driving that car, and working with the racing simulator helped keep me focused on racing,” said Germain.

Germain added Columbus-based JaxWax to his No. 24 Germain.com Camry, which will featured an updated paint scheme starting at Iowa.

“I’m very happy thankful to have JaxWax join the team. The timing is great because we just updated the Germain.com Camry to match the No. 30 Germain.com Tundra. The new paint job adds a high gloss finish which will need JaxWax to keep it bright,” said Germain.

Zach Germain races the No. 24 Germain.com Camry Sunday, May 23rd, at 4:00 PM ET at Iowa Speedway. Qualifying is at 1:00 PM. Sunday’s race will air on SPEED on Thursday, May 27th at 1:00 PM ET.
